  Artist Statement
In addition to being influenced by artist such as Vincent Van Gogh, Marcel Duchamp, Fernand Leger, Georgia O'Keefe, Winslow Homer, Henry Moore, Dorothy Dehner, Philip Guston, and many others, my paintings are also influenced by old Warner Bros. cartoons, comic strips, and the coloring books of my youth. For example, the thick black lines of ink in "Portrait of Francis Bacon" are directly related to the time I spent with coloring books as a seven year old boy. The inspiration for and influence of a painting can come from anywhere: music, television, the cereal box aisle at the grocery store....
  Artist Bio
I was born and raised in the Boston area. From 1983 to 1986 I studied fine arts at Skidmore College. From 1987 to 1988 I studied film animation at The School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
My paintings have been shown in The Gallery At Saratoga Springs in New York, Statements on Newbury St. in Boston, and Eclectic Art Gallery in Denver.
I lived in Colorado for 10 years before moving to Iowa City in 2002. During my years in Colorado, I took a sabbatical from painting and spent my time learning to play the bass guitar, studying tai chi with Jane and Bataan Faigao at Rocky Mountain Tai Chi Chuan, and teaching after school cartooning classes to elementary school children.
I am currently a staff cartoonist at The Daily Iowan doing political cartoons. I am also working on a comic strip called "Gravyboys" that I hope to get on the funny pages....

Additional Information
>Technical Information:
For paintings I use Strathmore Aquarius papers and watercolors, and sometimes Higgins waterproof ink. For cartoons, I use Strathmore Bristol board, Higgins ink, and a variety of pen-points such as Hunt crow-quills, Speedball, and Gillotts. For sketching, I'll draw on just about anything; gum wrappers, napkins, junk-mail, old envelopes, etc...
