David Heusinkveld earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Iowa. He taught special education classes to students with behavior disorders for over 25 years in the Cedar Rapids School District. He and his wife, Carol Roemig-Heusinkveld, live in Amana. Their son Forrest, also a graduate of the University of Iowa, is an accomplished musician. “As a photographer, I’m interested in the odd, the unusual, and the beautiful in nature. My images are evocative in a deeply emotional sense. Photography and hiking in the woods help me cope with the profound grief that emerged following the 2003 death of my son, Jordan, in a car accident. I, too, was in the accident and nearly died.
