Marcia Wegman spent most of her childhood in Columbus, Ohio. Drawing and painting was always a part of her early life. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Miami University with a major in graphic design, she moved to Iowa City where she completed an MFA in printmaking with Mauricio Lasansky, married, started a family and the store Things & Things & Things with her former husband, Tom Wegman. But for fifteen years she continued to take classes, workshops, explored various media including watercolor, acrylic, paper making, paper jewelry, and mixed media collage. It was not until the late 1990’s that she began to work with soft pastels and realized this medium was perfect for her. The directness of the process as well as the combination of painting and drawing used in pastel painting suited her well. Pastel landscapes have become her passion with a focus on the Iowa farmland but occasionally she returns to an abstract approach to the landscape using a mixed media and collage. Her love of hiking, especially in the southwest, has added a totally different focus for the pastel landscapes from time to time.
